Caught On Camera: Three Women Held Over Jewellery Shop Theft

Bhubaneswar, Aug 20: Three women were arrested for allegedly stealing a gold mangalsutra locket from a jewellery shop at Damana Square in Bhubaneswar, a source said on Thursday.

According to the source, the women entered Maruti Jewellery posing as customers and targeted the shop while pretending to examine gold ornaments.

One woman among the trio looked at the jewellery while another allegedly stole the locket, with the third woman reportedly helping provide cover.

CCTV footage from the shop captured the alleged theft. One of the women, later identified as Geeta Das, can be seen trying several gold lockets. At one point, she allegedly picked up a locket for a closer look but did not return it to the tray.

The two other women allegedly stood around her, helping conceal the theft.

Shop staff became suspicious and apprehended the three women. A PCR team and Chandrasekharpur police reached the spot after being alerted.

Police recovered gold ornaments from the three women and took them to the police station for questioning.

During the investigation, police found that multiple cases had previously been registered against the three women. They were subsequently arrested.

Jewellery Theft In Jashipur
In a separate incident, two unidentified men posing as Bol Bam devotees snatched a bag containing gold and silver jewellery from a jewellery shop owner in Jashipur market in Mayurbhanj district on August 17.

The incident took place near the SBI ATM at Bhandariposi when the shopkeeper was returning home after closing his shop.

The two suspects, allegedly dressed as Bol Bam devotees, approached the shopkeeper and fled with his jewellery bag, the source said.

The bag contained around 30 grams of gold ornaments and 2 kg of silver jewellery. The stolen jewellery was estimated to be worth around Rs 8 lakh.

Jashipur police reached the spot after being informed about the incident and launched an investigation.
