Bhubaneswar, Oct 1: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday has filed a chargesheet against two accused in connection with the January 27 bomb blast at Azad Nagar in Sundarpada, Bhubaneswar.
The chargesheet was filed before the Special NIA Court in Bhubaneswar in connection with case RC-01/2026/NIA/BBSR.
The accused have been identified as Sanu alias Rohan Ranjan Rout and Amiya Ranjan Mallik. They have been booked under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Explosive Substances Act and Explosives Act.
Four Injured In January Blast
The explosion took place on January 27 at a rented house in Azad Nagar under the Airfield police station limits while an improvised explosive device was allegedly being prepared.
The chargesheet was filed before the Special NIA Court in Bhubaneswar in connection with case RC-01/2026/NIA/BBSR.
The accused have been identified as Sanu alias Rohan Ranjan Rout and Amiya Ranjan Mallik. They have been booked under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Explosive Substances Act and Explosives Act.

Four people sustained serious injuries in the blast. They included Sahanawaz Mallik alias Mufi, his mother Lijatun Bibi, Amiya Ranjan Mallik and Truptimayee Mahala. The NIA's official case record confirms that all four sustained serious injuries.
Sahanawaz Mallik died during treatment on February 4, while Lijatun Bibi succumbed to her injuries on February 10. The other two injured persons later recovered.

NIA Takes Over Investigation
The NIA took over the investigation after the Centre directed the agency to probe the case. The agency registered RC-01/2026/NIA/BBSR on April 4, 2026. The NIA's FIR lists provisions under Sections 118(1), 125(b) and 61(2) of the BNS, Sections 3 and 4 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and Section 9(b) of the Indian Explosives Act, 1884.
According to the NIA, its investigation has found evidence indicating that the accused were allegedly involved in illegally procuring explosive materials and a conspiracy related to the preparation of bombs.
