Patna, Sep 22: A key accused in the alleged assault and molestation of two Class-X students in Bihar’s Jamui was shot in the leg during an encounter with police early Tuesday, a source said.
The accused, identified as Nandan Yadav, was allegedly seen in a video assaulting and groping a minor girl during the incident. He was taken to hospital after being injured in the police action.
According to the source, Yadav was being taken to the reported crime scene as part of the investigation when he allegedly attempted to flee from custody. Police said an encounter followed, during which he was shot in the leg.
Pictures showed Yadav, with his face covered, being taken to hospital with his arms over the shoulders of security personnel.

Five Arrested In Jamui Case
Police said five people have been arrested in connection with the case so far, while two other accused are minors.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said efforts were underway to identify all those involved and assured that strict action would be taken against the accused.
Video Shows Assault On Two Students
The incident came to light after a video circulated on September 19 showing a group of men allegedly assaulting a Class-X boy and groping his female friend in Jamui.
The two students were reportedly returning from coaching classes when the group approached them.
The video shows the boy being held by his collar while the girl tries to pull him away. Yadav then allegedly grabs the girl by the neck and carries her some distance while she struggles to free herself.
The boy subsequently approaches Yadav and attempts to separate him from the girl. Yadav then puts her down and allegedly pushes her while touching her chest, as the video showed.

Police Warn Against Revealing Minor’s Identity
Jamui Police have also intensified action against people accused of sharing the video or circulating information that could reveal the identity of the minor victim.
Police warned that disclosing the identity of a minor victim is a serious offence and may attract action under applicable provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Information Technology Act and the Juvenile Justice Act.
