Brahmapur, Sep 15: A Jatra artist was allegedly stabbed to death by two youths while rehearsals for a Ganesh Puja drama were underway at Khojapalli village under Khallikote police station limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Tuesday, a source said.

The drama was scheduled to be staged on September 19. However, the rehearsals turned tragic when the two youths allegedly arrived at the venue and attacked the artist, identified as Chitrasen Jena, with a sharp weapon.

Artist Succumbs To Injuries At MKCG
Following the attack, other people present at the spot rushed Jena to the Khallikote Community Health Centre. As his condition was critical, he was shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur after receiving preliminary treatment at Khallikote.

Jena later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at MKCG.

His death has cast a pall of gloom over Khojapalli village.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police are investigating whether the incident had any connection with the drama rehearsal or Jena’s role in the play.

The two youths allegedly involved in the attack have reportedly fled the area. Police launched a search to trace them and are investigating the circumstances leading to the killing.

Bomb Attack Reported In Kukudakhandi
In a separate incident, four bombs were allegedly hurled by unidentified miscreants at Bauri Sahi of Kukudakhandi under Sadar police station limits in Ganjam district late Monday night.

According to the information available, the miscreants arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly threw four bombs inside the locality before fleeing at high speed.

Villagers reportedly pelted the fleeing men with stones, following which the two suspects fell from the motorcycle and sustained injuries. Residents caught the duo and allegedly tied them up before handing them over to police.

Earlier Sword Attack Sparks Tension
The bombing reportedly followed an earlier attack in the same area.

On Monday afternoon, a youth from Bauri Sahi was allegedly attacked with a sword by some miscreants on the Kukudakhandi main road. The incident had reportedly created tension in the locality.

Later that night, the unidentified men allegedly entered the village and hurled bombs, triggering panic among residents.

Police took the two detained suspects into custody and are investigating their alleged involvement in the bombing and the circumstances surrounding the earlier attack.
