Kataka, Sep 18: An inmate from Basantapur village under Jilinda panchayat in Kataka district was allegedly assaulted by fellow inmates inside the Narasinghpur Sub-Jail, with his family raising questions over his safety inside the prison, a source said on Friday.
The inmate was identified as Himanshu Nayak.
Nayak allegedly told his family that three inmates assaulted him over an issue related to cooking food inside the jail.
Following the incident, Himanshu’s father Pintu Nayak and mother Dalimba Nayak visited the Narasinghpur Sub-Jail and met their son to understand what had happened.
The inmate was identified as Himanshu Nayak.
Nayak allegedly told his family that three inmates assaulted him over an issue related to cooking food inside the jail.
Following the incident, Himanshu’s father Pintu Nayak and mother Dalimba Nayak visited the Narasinghpur Sub-Jail and met their son to understand what had happened.

Family Raises Safety Concerns
Dalimba Nayak said her son told her that three inmates had assaulted him and threatened that he could be killed.
“My son told me that three inmates assaulted him and he would be killed one day. However, jail officials said that one person assaulted him rather than three. They told us that they have separated the two and he will be safe,” she said.
Himanshu’s father also expressed concern over his son’s safety and urged the jail authorities to take necessary measures.

“My son said that he was assaulted by two-three inmates while he was cooking food. We are in fear. I urge the jail officials to ensure my son’s safety,” Pintu Nayak said.
