Cuttack, Feb 18: In a shocking incident, a youth was killed in Cuttack’s Press Colony on Wednesday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Jena, aka Rinku, a resident of Nuapada area.
According our source, the incident occurred around 2 pm. when gunshots suddenly echoed through the area. A group of youth were having a feast, when gunshots were fired all of a sudden.
Following the incident, Soumya was rushed to SCB Medical
College and Hospital in a critical condition, but doctors declared him dead
upon arrival, the source informed.

The news quickly spread, drawing a large crowd of locals and family members to the hospital premises. Police immediately tightened security in and around the medical campus to prevent any untoward situation.

Police have already launched an investigation detaining two individuals for questioning. “While the exact motive behind the shooting remains unclear, police are probing multiple angles, including possible past enmity, disputes during meals, or even altercations linked to cricket games,” said the source.
The investigation aims to uncover whether the attack was premeditated or a sudden escalation of conflict.
Following the confirmation of Soumya’s death, his body was sent to the morgue for post-mortem under strict security arrangements.
Police officials have assured that a thorough probe is
underway and that those responsible will be brought to justice. Meanwhile, the
community remains tense, awaiting clarity on why Soumya was targeted, and who
orchestrated the attack.
