Cuttack, Feb 5: Commissionerate Police have apprehended a notorious chain-snatching gang operating in Cuttack.
Chauliaganj Police arrested three individuals — the prime accused and two receivers of stolen goods.
The prime accused has been identified as gang leader Bishal
Mallik, while the receivers are Prabhakar Samant and Harekrushna Sahoo.

According to Police, Mallik was involved in the chain-snatching incident near Birupa Barrage. Officers seized as many as seven gold chains weighing around 97 grams and a motorcycle used in the crime.

✨According to the investigating authorities, Mallik has a criminal history as six cases registered against him across different police stations in the Silver City.
A special 13-member investigation team was formed under the leadership of ACP Arun Swain to probe the case. Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Khilari, addressing media persons at a press conference, described the arrests as a significant success in curbing street crimes.
In a separate development, the Bhubaneswar Court sentenced Nanda Kishore Ojha alias Kanha to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of a woman mobile shop owner. The crime was committed on September 27, 2024, sending shockwaves through the city. Ojha fatally stabbed the victim following a lopsided love obsession.
Based on testimonies from 23 witnesses and the documentary evidence presented during the trial, the court gave its verdict.
Earlier on Thursday, a police constable was found dead on
the roof of the police barracks in Nayagarh. The deceased has been identified
as Sunil Sethi, a member of the 2023 batch of the Odisha Police. Reports
suggest that Sethi, who had recently been posted at the Nayagarh Reserve Police,
committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon.
