Bhubaneswar, Sep 24: A shocking incident in Bhubaneswar’s Brit Colony under Nayapalli police station has sparked widespread discussion after a man allegedly killed his wife by repeatedly striking her head with a frying pan.

Police said the accused, Sarbeswar Pradhan, attacked his 26‑year‑old wife Bansmita Swain on Wednesday evening following a heated argument over atrivial matter. The brutal assault left her dead at the scene.

Officers detained Sarbeswar and began questioning him while investigating the exact circumstances of the crime.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Sarbeswar had been undergoing treatment for mental illness for the past six months and was on medication. He had married Bansmita about one and a half years ago, and the couple has a three‑month‑old daughter.

Originally from Rajnagar in Kendrapara district, Sarbeswar had been living in Brit Colony with his father, a contractor, while assisting in his work.

Police sources said Sarbeswar had recently shown signs of mental imbalance. On Wednesday evening, a quarrel with his wife escalated, leading him to strike her repeatedly with a frying pan.

Neighbours alerted police, who rushed to the spot, seized the body, and sent it to Capital Hospital for post‑mortem.

Nayapalli police confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the precise motive behind the attack.
