Dhenkanal, Sep 20: A man allegedly killed his wife over a domestic dispute and later died by suicide by hanging himself in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday night in Dadaraghati village under Parjang police station limits in the district.

The deceased have been identified as Mithun Nayak (33) and his wife Rasmita Nayak (30).

According to preliminary investigation, the couple was engaged in a heated argument late at night. In a fit of rage, Mithun brutally assaulted Rasmita, leading to her death. Overcome with fear and regret, he then locked his children in another room before hanging himself from a mango tree outside their house, said Kamakhyanagar SDPO Chittaranjan Behera.

After getting information, Parjang IIC and the SDPO, reached the spot along with a scientific team to collect evidence. Forensic experts gathered samples from the scene, while police questioned relatives and neighbours to ascertain the underlying causes of the dispute.

The shocking incident has left the locality in grief, with neighbours expressing concern over the future of the couple’s three minor children.

Local residents voiced anguish over the plight of the children, urging authorities to ensure their care and rehabilitation.
