Chandrika Hembram Case / Bhimsen Tudu Gets Bail on Rs 50,000 Bond in Medical Student Death Case

Kataka, Sep 3: The Orissa High Court has granted bail to Bhimsen Prasad Tudu, who was arrested in connection with the death of medical student Chandrika Hembram.

The court granted bail against a bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties, while directing Tudu not to influence or threaten witnesses and to cooperate with the investigation.

Chandrika, a medical student at Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital in Baleshwar, was found dead after her body was recovered from the Kathajodi River near Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Setu in Kataka on June 4. Her death subsequently led police to investigate Tudu over his relationship with her and their alleged dispute over marriage.

Tudu Came Under Police Scanner After Chandrika’s Death
Tudu came under the police scanner after investigators established that he had been in contact with Chandrika shortly before her death. Police questioned him about his relationship with Chandrika, his interactions with her before the incident and the circumstances surrounding their alleged dispute over marriage.

The investigation subsequently focused on Tudu’s movements and his communication with Chandrika in the period leading up to her death.

Tudu Admits Meeting Chandrika Before Death
On June 25, Kataka DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said that Chandrika had been staying in Bhubaneswar for nearly seven days before her death.

During questioning, Tudu allegedly admitted that he had met Chandrika shortly before the incident. Police examined the circumstances of that meeting as part of their investigation into her death.

Alleged Marriage Refusal Becomes Key Focus
Police also gathered evidence concerning Tudu’s alleged refusal to marry Chandrika and the circumstances surrounding the breakdown of their relationship, the DCP had said.

Call Recordings And Chats Come Under Scanner
As the investigation progressed, police also scrutinised alleged call recordings and chat messages that surfaced in the days following Chandrika’s death.

The communications reportedly indicated strain in Chandrika’s relationship with Tudu. Messages allegedly sent by Chandrika to her mother shortly before her death reportedly suggested that she wanted her family to contact Tudu’s relatives and consider legal action.

Police examined these digital communications along with forensic and other evidence gathered during the investigation.

Police Booked Tudu Under BNS Section 69
Tudu was arrested during the investigation and remained in judicial custody. Police invoked Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in the case.

The investigation examined the circumstances surrounding Chandrika’s death, her relationship with Tudu and the events leading up to the incident.

Odisha Govt Dismissed Tudu From Service
Tudu, who had been recruited as an Odisha Treasury and Accounts Service (OTAS) officer, was dismissed from government service by the Odisha government on June 27.

Following his dismissal, Tudu became ineligible for future government employment.
