✨Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis emphasized that the use of fake or altered registration plates is a “serious violation of the law” and poses challenges to traffic enforcement, crime prevention, and public safety.
“Such practices may facilitate the concealment of vehicle identities, obstruction of investigations and evasion of legal accountability,” he said.
Authorities reminded vehicle owners that registration plates must strictly comply with specifications under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, including High‑Security Registration Plate (HSRP) requirements.
The use of fake numbers, altered digits, unauthorized fonts, decorative lettering, stickers, or any modification that misrepresents the genuine registration number is prohibited.
Police urged motorists to ensure their plates are genuine, clearly visible, and legible. The department has pledged to continue focused enforcement drives, with traffic personnel maintaining strict vigilance to identify violations and initiate legal proceedings against offenders.
Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated its commitment to strengthening traffic discipline, ensuring accountability, and safeguarding law‑abiding road users.
Citizens have been asked to report suspected cases of fraudulent registration plates to the authorities for verification and necessary action.
