New Delhi, Oct 19: Security at Delhi’s Jama Masjid Metro Station tightened dramatically on Monday when CISF personnel intercepted a passenger who attempted to flee after a suspicious item was flagged during baggage screening.

According to the CISF, the incident occurred when the passenger’s luggage was being examined through the X-ray Baggage Inspection System (XBIS).

Demonstrating quick response, CISF personnel chased him and caught him near the station’s exit gate before he could leave the premises.

A thorough examination of his belongings revealed an unidentified semi-solid substance concealed inside a stitched portion of his undergarment, officials said.

Reports suggest the passenger claimed to be a non-resident Indian (NRI) residing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Following the recovery, CISF handed him over to the police along with the seized substance for further investigation.

The exact nature of the material and the motive behind its concealment remain unclear. Police are now working to establish the identity of the substance and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

CISF officials emphasized that their personnel remain vigilant during passenger and baggage screening to ensure compliance with security protocols and safeguard metro commuters.

“The force is committed to preventing any potential threat,” they said, adding that further action will depend on the outcome of the police investigation.
