Bhubaneswar, May 26: Odisha Police has intensified its crackdown on illegal IPL betting operations during the ongoing IPL 2026 season, leading to a major breakthrough across several districts.

In a coordinated series of raids, police arrested 18 individuals and seized significant assets linked to betting rackets.

According to official reports, four separate cases have been registered statewide. The raids resulted in the confiscation of ₹36.85 lakh in cash and the freezing of bank accounts holding ₹39.42 lakh. Additionally, police seized 13 mobile phones and two cars used in the betting operations.

The most notable success came from Puri district, where police registered one case and arrested four accused. They seized ₹25.35 lakh in cash, froze ₹31.81 lakh from bank accounts, and confiscated six mobile phones. This marks the largest single haul in the state’s anti-betting drive.

In Sundargarh district, police arrested five individuals, recovering ₹6 lakh in cash, freezing ₹17.61 lakh in bank balances, and seizing five mobile phones. Jharsuguda police uncovered another major racket, arresting eight accused and confiscating ₹5 lakh in cash along with two cars used in the illegal trade.

Meanwhile, Berhampur police arrested one accused, seizing ₹50,200 in cash and two mobile phones.

Odisha Police has emphasized that these operations are part of a sustained campaign to eliminate illegal betting activities that exploit the popularity of IPL. Officials confirmed that similar raids and investigations will continue in the coming days to ensure the state remains free from such unlawful practices.
