Jharsuguda, May 25: Jharsuguda district police have uncovered a large-scale online cricket betting racket operating during the ongoing IPL season. Acting on credible intelligence, a special team from Brajarajnagar police station conducted simultaneous raids at multiple locations in the area.
During the operation, police discovered that the syndicate was running its illegal activities from a rented house using computers, laptops, and mobile applications.
The crackdown led to the arrest of eight accused individuals. Authorities seized significant materials including ₹5,09,100 in cash, two laptops, 41 mobile phones, one Toyota Innova, one Maruti Baleno, numerous SIM cards, and detailed online betting records.

✨Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were working on a commission basis. They closely monitored live match trends and lured unsuspecting people with promises of easy money. Police sources indicate that the racket has interstate links, and investigations are underway to identify the masterminds behind the operation.
In addition to the arrests and seizures, police have frozen approximately ₹3.7 lakh across multiple bank accounts connected to the racket. This decisive action highlights the growing menace of cyber and financial crimes linked to sports betting.
The successful bust has become a major talking point in the
local community, with Jharsuguda police being praised for their swift and
effective action. Authorities have assured that further investigations will
continue to dismantle the wider network and bring the culprits to justice.
