"Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over eastcentral Bay of Bengal off Myanmar coast, a low pressure area has formed over northeast Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood and the associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level," the IMD said.
The low pressure area is likely to become a well marked low pressure area during the next 24 hours, it added.
Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre predicted that light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri during next 24 hours.
The Met Centre also issued a yellow warning of thunderstorm and lighting for the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Rayagada and Koraput during the period.
Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail in many parts of the State during the next five days, the regional Met Centre predicted.
There will be no large change in the maximum temperature (Day temperature) at many places over the districts of Odisha during next 4-5 days, the Met Centre said.
The maximum temperature is likely to be above normal by 3-5 degree Centre at a few places over the districts of Odisha. Hot and discomfort weather is likely to prevail during the next four days, it added.
