Cyclone Dana: Odisha CM Urges All MLAs To Coordinate Relief And Rescue Operations

The Union Minister interacted with the Indian community in Melbourne and answered their questions on cooperation between India and Australia in education, particularly on aspects of internationalisation, university linkages, research, skilling, student exchange among others.

“Our diaspora are the biggest ambassadors of Bharat’s civilisation. Our civilisational values and knowledge can offer solutions to global challenges. Knowledge collaborations will be the cornerstone of India-Australia friendship as well as in addressing mutual priorities,” Pradhan posted on X.

Pradhan arrived here today for a three-day visit to Australia.  His visit to Australia is expected to foster collaboration, participation, and synergy in critical areas of mutual interest in education. 

During his three-day visit to Australia, Minister Pradhan is scheduled to meet Minister for Education, Jason Clare MP in Melbourne on October 23. He will also deliver the Plenary address at the Australian International Education Conference.

On October 24, Pradhan will visit Auburn Long Day Child Care Centre in Sydney to explore opportunities for partnerships in educating early childhood education workforces. He will also interact with the representatives of the Innovative Research Universities and attend the 2nd Australia India Education and Skills Council.

On October 25, the Minister will visit the Granville South Creative and Performing Arts High School and the site of the Macquarie Park Innovation District.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister said all the MLAs should try their best to stay with the people in their respective constituencies and give them the necessary support during the calamities.

“In view of the possible cyclonic storm (Dana) and heavy rainfall, all the MLAs should be present in their respective constituencies in order to coordinate with the district administration to deal with the storm collectively and expedite relief and rescue operations. According to the IMD, the severe cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ likely to be formed in the Bay of Bengal on October 23 is very likely to cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of 24th and early morning 25th October 2024 as a severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph.

The IMD predicted that the rainfall activities will start in the coastal areas of the state from October 23 onwards while extremely heavy rainfall will be witnessed in some parts on October 24 and 25.

Around 14 coastal districts of the State are likely to be affected by the impending storm and heavy rainfall, the IMD forecast.
