Mumbai, Sept 16: Indian equity indices closed at record high due to gains in heavyweights like ICICI Bank and L&T.

At closing, Sensex was up 97 points or 0.12 per cent at 82,988 and Nifty was up 27 points or 0.11 per cent at 25,383. Nifty Bank closed up by 215 points or 0.41 per cent at 52,153.

Intraday, Sensex and Nifty made a new all-time high of 83,184 and 24,445 respectively.

In the trading session, Adani Green surged 7.59 per cent and Adani Power gained 5.45 per cent while Adani Enterprises and Adani Wilmar gained nearly half per cent each.

Buying was seen in the midcap and smallcap stocks. The Nifty Midcap 100 index was at 60,259, up 225 points or 0.38 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index was at 19,537, up 31 points or 0.16 per cent.

Among the sectoral indices, metal, realty, energy, commodity and infra were major gainers. IT, PSU Bank, FMCG and Pharma were major laggards.

Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst, LKP Securities said, "The Nifty index remained range-bound throughout the session as traders opted for caution ahead of a significant event. The technical chart shows no change in formation compared to the previous day. The trend continues to be strong, though with limited upward potential in the short term."

"Key support levels are still intact between 25,150 and 25,200, while resistance is positioned around 25,460-25,500. A decisive breakout from the current range might initiate a directional move," De added.

Gold remained positive with gains of Rs 100 at Rs73,600 in MCX and $10 higher at $2,585 in Comex.

Another market expert said, "The domestic market traded in a narrow range with a positive bias as the participants are keenly awaiting the Fed’s decision this week. The weakness in the US job market and benign inflation are pointing at a slew of rate cuts on the table. The inflow of foreign money and an expectation of stability in domestic growth may keep sentiment optimistic."

PM Modi To Address Rallies In Srinagar, Katra Today

Srinagar, Sep 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to address election rallies in Srinagar and Katra on Thursday ahead of the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls, scheduled for September 25.

Prime Minister Modi is slated to address a public rally at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Srinagar at around 12:00 noon, followed by another at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Sports Complex in Katra at 3:00 p.m.

This will be the Prime Minister's first election rally in the Valley for ongoing Assembly elections. Earlier, he addressed a public meeting for the BJP in Jammu's Doda on September 14.

BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh has said that Prime Minister Modi's visit to J&K would be a "game changer".

Talking to reporters after he visited the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, Chugh said: "People of J&K love the Prime Minister. We have seen in the past whenever he has visited J&K, people in large numbers have welcomed him. Thursday's visit of PM Modi will be a game changer, rather a milestone event for the people of J&K."

The J&K Police have made foolproof security arrangements in coordination with the Special Protection Group (SPG) which is responsible for the security of the Prime Minister.

An SPG team had arrived in Srinagar four days ahead of Prime Minister Modi's visit to coordinate with the UT authorities regarding the details for the protection of the VVIP protectee.

Located in the Ram Munshibagh area of Srinagar, Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium can accommodate a large number of people, who the BJP expects will come to listen to Prime Minister Modi.

The passage for participants at the venue in Srinagar will be regulated and police said some traffic diversions will also be made to make sure that the rally passes off smoothly.

"For the visit of the Prime Minister there is a detailed standard operating procedure (SoP) governing such a visit and we are following that to the minutest detail," said police.

All high-rise buildings around the venue will be taken over by sharpshooters of the security forces and electronic surveillance will be augmented by human security to ensure foolproof security set-up.

The Prime Minister's visit comes a day after voting ends in the first phase of three-phased J&K Assembly elections.

Uttar Pradesh: Goods Train Derail In Mathura

Mathura, Sept 19: Twenty-five wagons of a goods train on Wednesday derailed in Mathura, said officials.

Officers from the railway department along with the city police reached the spot upon receiving the information.

The derailment has blocked three rail lines, and further information about the situation is being accessed by officials.

Tej Prakash Agarwal, DRM Agra Division, said, "A goods train has derailed. We got the information at around 8.12 PM. 25 wagons of the train have derailed...We are assessing the situation here...Up, down, and third-line traffic has been affected. Traffic on the fourth line is moving..."
