"From the streets of Kolkata to Cinematic Heights; Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema," Minister Vaishnaw announced.

The Minister said the award will be presented to the veteran actor at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8.

The actor made his acting debut with the art house drama Mrigayaa (1976) by Mrinal Sen for which he won his first National Film Award for Best Actor. The film was a major box office success in the country and outside also, particularly in the then Soviet Union.

The actor embarked on his acting journey with Mrigayaa and became a rage after his 1982 film Disco Dancer was released. The film did phenomenal business across Asia, the (then) Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa.

The news of Mithun Chakraborty winning the Dadasaheb Phalke Award comes just months after he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan. The ceremony took place in April and the actor accepted the honour from President Droupadi Murmu. “I am very happy. I have never asked for anything for myself from anyone in my life. When I received a call from the Home Ministry informing me that I was being awarded the Padma Bhushan, I was silent for a minute because I had not expected it,” he said after accepting the honour.

His other films are 'Agneepath', 'Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye', 'Hum Se Hai Zamana', 'Pasand Apni Apni', 'Ghar Ek Mandir' and 'Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki', among many others. In recent years, he appeared in films such 'OMG: Oh My God'.

Mithun Chakraborty (born Gouranga Chakraborty) was born on June 16, 1950.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest award in the field of cinema. It is presented annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation set up by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The recipient is honoured for their outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema. The award was first presented in 1969 to commemorate Dadasaheb Phalke's contribution to Indian cinema.

Rohit-Jaiswal Hitting Helps India Bring Up Fastest Team Hundred In Test Cricket History

Kanpur, Sept 30: The Indian opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Rohit Sharma played a crucial role in helping the team make history by enabling them to reach the fastest team 100 in Test cricket history.

During the second Test against Bangladesh at Kanpur, assigned with a task to overcome Bangladesh's score of 233 in the first innings, Rohit-Jaiswal started attacking from ball one, with Jaiswal hitting Hasan Mahmud for three fours in the first over, giving his team a total of 12 runs.

In the next over by Khaled Ahmed, the skipper Rohit started off by launching him for two sixes and Jaiswal hit the final ball for a four, getting 17 runs from the over.

Hasan was once again at the receiving end of the punishment from the fiery Indian duo in third over as a six from Rohit and a six with two fours from Jaiswal helped India cross the 50-run mark in just 3 overs, the fastest ever in Test cricket.

The quickfire stand of 55 runs ended in 3.5 overs, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz cleaning up Rohit for a quickfire 23 in 11 balls, with a four and three sixes.

At that time, the scoring rate of these two was 14.34 runs per over, the highest scoring rate in a Test partnership with a minimum of 50 runs, outdoing the England duo of Ben Stokes and Ben Duckett, who stitched a stand of 87 in just 44 balls against West Indies at Edgbaston this year, scoring at a rate of 11.86 runs per over.

Even after Rohit was dismissed, the protective, anchor-like approach of Shubman Gill provided Jaiswal with a safety net to go even harder at bowlers, helping India reach hundred-run mark in just 10.1 overs, outdoing team's own record of registering the milestone in 12.2 overs against West Indies just last year.

Coming to the match, India had won the toss and opted to field first. The action stopped at day one at 107/3. After that, no play took place on day two due to rains and on day three due to a wet outfield. Play could only commence on day four.

After some positive cricket by Shadman Islam (24 in 36 balls, with four boundaries) and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (31 in 57 balls, with six fours), Mominul kept the Bangladesh inning together with his 13th Test ton, battling bravely against spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

He stitched a 54-run stand with Mehidy Hasan Miraz (20) which took Bangladesh to 233/10.

Jasprit Bumrah (3/50) was the pick of the bowlers for India. Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin and Akash Deep took two wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja got one.

India had won the toss and opted to bowl first. India is 1-0 up in the two-match Test series.

Ravindra Jadeja Enters Record Books With 300 Test Scalps

Kanpur, Sep 30: Indian spin-bowling allrounder Ravindra Jadeja etched his name into the record books on Monday after claiming his landmark 300th Test wickets during the second Test against Bangladesh at Green Park Stadium.

After two frustrating days of rain, the fourth day began with renewed energy, and India made the most of the opportunity. It was Jadeja, who provided the final flourish, dismissing Khaled Ahmed to bundle out Bangladesh for 233 runs.

In the process, Jadeja not only became the 7th Indian bowler to reach 300 Test wickets but also joined the elite club of players who have scored 3000 runs and taken 300 wickets in Test cricket. Only Kapil Dev and R Ashwin had achieved the feat before him for India.

Moreover, he is the second fastest Indian by balls (17428) to complete the 300 Test wickets milestone after R Ashwin (15636).

It also placed him as the fastest Asian to complete the double milestone and the second-fastest player in the world after England’s great Ian Botham.

The day had begun with hope for India, and it didn’t take long for the breakthroughs to arrive. Jasprit Bumrah set the tone, removing the dangerous Mushfiqur Rahim early.

However, Bangladesh's Mominul Haque proved a tough nut to crack, battling his way to a brilliant century. As the visitors tried to claw their way back into the match, the Indian fielders lifted the team’s spirits.

Rohit Sharma plucked a stunning catch out of thin air to send Litton Das packing, followed by another sharp effort from Mohammed Siraj to dismiss Bangladesh’s talisman Shakib Al Hasan.

Mominul’s resistance, however, wasn’t enough to save his team. Bumrah’s lethal deliveries rattled through Mehidy Hasan and Taijul Islam, while Siraj added Hasan Mahmud to his tally before Jadeja wrapped up the innings, bringing Bangladesh's fight to an end. (IANS)
