Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan shall be conferred the ‘Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar’ at a function scheduled here on April 24, while music maestro A. R. Rahman shall be bestowed the ‘Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Award,’ next week, the organisers said.

Mumbai, Apr 17: Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan shall be conferred the ‘Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar’ at a function scheduled here on April 24, while music maestro A. R. Rahman shall be bestowed the ‘Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Award,’ next week, the organisers said.

The award is given by the Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratisthan, Pune, nurtured by the eminent Mangeshkar family, and shall be given away to Bachchan on his 82nd death anniversary, along with a musical tribute.

Earlier, the inaugural award was given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi (2022), followed by veteran singer Asha Bhosale (2023), for their path-breaking, spectacular and exemplary contributions to the country, its people and society.

Besides Bachchan and Rahman, the other prominent awardees in different categories are: ‘Ghalib’ as Best Marathi Play of the Year, NGO Deepstambh Foundation Manobal of Jalgaon, litterateur Manjiri Phadke, comedian Ashok Saraf, actress Padmini Kolhapure, singer Roopkumar Rathod, journalist S. B. Torsekar, actor Atul Parchure, producer-actor Randeep Hooda.

The awardees’ list was announced by siblings Hridaynath Mangeshkar and Usha Mangeshkar, and the honours shall be done at the hands of Asha Bhonsle on April 24.

Prominent singer Vibhavari Apte-Joshi and her team will pay a musical tribute to Lata Mangeshkar that evening, being organised by the Pratisthan and Hridayesh Arts.

Two Miscreants Held For Attacking Nandankanan Zoo Officials

Bhubaneswar, Apr 30: In a disturbing incident at Nandankanan Zoological Park, two miscreants who created a ruckus on Monday night by attacking officials and damaging office equipment were arrested on Tuesday.

According to the information, two miscreants allegedly barged into the zoo office and vandalized the office furniture apart from attacking and misbehaving with zoo officials last night.

Soon after the incident, police lodged a case and launched a manhunt to nab the miscreants who hail from Daruthenga village.
The miscreants has been identified as Pahada Singh and one of his associate of Darudenga village.

It was also alleged that the miscreant duo vandalised office equipment like computer, laptop, printer, TV and other furniture. They also damaged the laptop and mobile phone of the audit officer.

However, the reason behind creating the scene is yet to be ascertained.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.

President Droupadi Murmu To Visit Ram Temple In Ayodhya On May 1

Ayodhya, Apr 30: President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit Ayodhya on Wednesday to offer prayers at the Ram temple, temple authorities said on Tuesday.

Barring the period when President Murmu would offer prayers to the deity, the movement of the devotees would not be regulated.

Office-bearers of the Ram temple trust said on Tuesday that the queue system would remain operational as usual on Wednesday and 'darshan' would go on as per the scheduled timing.

President Murmu is expected to arrive in the city by a special plane around 4 p.m., after which her cavalcade and security personnel would be escorted to the temple complex via the VIP gate.

According to senior government officials, the President would be in the city for nearly three hours.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are expected to be present in the city to welcome her.

Elaborate traffic diversions will remain enforced over the Lucknow-Ayodhya-Gorakhpur national highway and on the route connecting the Ayodhya airport to Ram Path.

During the evening hours, preparations are being made at the banks of the Saryu river to host the President when the 'aarti' of the river takes place.

Member of the Ram Temple trust, Anil Mishra said, "The detailed programme is yet to arrive, but we are gearing up to welcome the President on May 1. Common devotees would continue to get darshan as usual. We are taking steps to organise the high-profile visit while causing minimal inconvenience to the pilgrims."

The queue would be regulated for a brief period only when dignitaries arrive in the temple.

Divisional Commissioner of Ayodhya, Gaurav Dayal, said, "Briefing of the government officials and security personnel will be held on Tuesday. Traffic diversions and arrangements will be done to ensure seamless movement of the President's cavalcade."

Odisha EOW Arrests One From MP In Rs 9.6 Crore Fraud Case

Bhubaneswar, Apr 30: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Police has busted a racket involved in the misappropriation of funds worth crores of rupees deposited in the banks through cloned cheques, an official said on Monday.

A member of the gang was arrested from Balaghat area of Madhya Pradesh on April 26. The accused was identified as Pomesh Tembhare of Kirnapur in Balaghat district. Tembhare, brought to Odisha on transit remand following a local court's order at Balaghat, was produced before the OPID court, Balasore on Monday.

The EOW busted the racket while investigating a case registered on the allegations of Sujata Kanungo, Chief Manager, Bank of India's Baripada branch in Mayurbhanj district.

Kanungo complained about illegal transactions of Rs 9,56,76,600 from the account of District Mineral Foundation Trust of Zilla Parishad, Mayurbhanj maintained through the production of four cheques on April 10 and 18.

"During the investigation, it was learnt that the fraudsters, by producing forged or cloned cheques, managed to transfer Rs 9,56,76,600 to two different accounts in the name of PT Constructions & Supplier maintained with Bank of Maharashtra and SK Enterprises maintained with Punjab & Sind Bank. It was also found that the amount was further diverted to many other accounts from the accounts of PT Constructions & Supplier and S K Enterprises," an EOW source said.

The police also ascertained that more than Rs 2.68 crore out of the total Rs 9.56 crore has been transferred to the account of PT Constructions & Suppliers, the firm owned by Tembhare.

The Raipur-based firm is a sham one and created only for the fraud.

EOW team with the help of local police and CAPF nabbed the accused from his hideout in the Maoist-hit village of Balaghat.

"The accused is a member of a larger gang having complex network in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. They have been doing these scams for at least 4 years. They have been doing it through well planned and meticulous methods from cheque cloning to multi-layering of money transfers, creation and operations of multiple mule bank accounts, withdrawal of money, information network, local touts etc.," added the EOW source.
