Data intelligence firm Tracxn report said that funding for the retail sector has increased by 32 per cent to $1.63 billion in the first half of 2024, which was $1.23 billion in the first half of 2023.

The report further states that right of the total funding rounds in the first half of 2024 have raised more than $100 million.

Flipkart has raised $350 million, Apollo 24/7 has raised $297 million and Meeso has raised $275 million, which shows investors are very optimistic about the retail sector growth.

India is the fastest-growing major economy in the world.

In FY 2023-24 GDP growth rate was 8.2 per cent which is estimated to be 7.2 per cent in the current financial year.

Due to the economic growth, consumption in India is also increasing rapidly.

According to a UBS report, consumption in India has almost doubled in the last decade. Last year it was at $2.1 trillion.

India plans to become the world's third-largest economy by 2026.

Last year, consumption in India grew faster than other major economies of the world such as China, US, and Germany.

According to the Household Consumption Expenditure Survey, since 2011-12, spending in rural areas has increased by 164 per cent and in urban areas by 146 per cent.

The survey said that in monthly per capita consumption expenditure (MPCE) 2022-23, compared to 2011-12, the expenditure in rural areas has increased by 164 per cent to Rs 3,773 and the expenditure in urban areas has increased by 146 per cent to Rs 6,459.

Out of 6,620,000 banned WhatsApp accounts, 1,255,000 were proactively blocked, before any reports from users, the social media company said in a statement.

The popular mobile messaging platform, which has more than 550 million users in India, received 13,367 grievances from the country, and the records "actioned" were just 31.

The account "Actioned" means complaints where WhatsApp took remedial action.

WhatsApp also received 11 orders from the Grievance Appellate Committee in the country and complied with both, according to its monthly compliance report as per the new Indian IT Rules 2021.

"We will continue with transparency to our work and include information about our efforts in future reports," said the company.

For April, the Meta-owned platform banned more than 71 lakh accounts in the country.

The platform received a record 10,554 complaint reports in March, and the records "actioned" were 11.

The company employs a team of engineers, data scientists, analysts, researchers, and experts in law enforcement, online safety, and technology developments to oversee these efforts.

"We enable users to block contacts and to report problematic content and contacts to us from inside the app. We pay close attention to user feedback and engage with specialists in stemming misinformation, promoting cybersecurity, and preserving election integrity," said WhatsApp.

In the quarterfinals Monday, India made yet another change to their mixed doubles pairing, combining Sanskar Saraswat with Shravani Walekar. The duo gave the team the lead with a 21-16, 13-21, 21-17 win over Kang Khai Xing and Noraqilha Maisarah. The Senior National Badminton Championship runners-up Tanvi Sharma then doubled India’s lead when she got the better of Siti Zulaikha 21-15, 15-21, 22-20 in the girls' singles.

India looked on course for an upset win when Pranay Shettigar clinched the opening game against Muhammad Faiq. But he could not sustain the momentum and lost 15-21, 21-18, 21-19 in an hour and six minutes and Malaysia then grabbed the opportunity. Walekar and Navya Kanderi went down 16-21, 15-21 against Bui Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting and then the boys' doubles combination of Bhargav Ram Arigela and Arsh Mohammad lost to Kang and Aaron Tai 18-21, 10-21.

Speaking about the team’s overall performance, Badminton Association of India (BAI) secretary Sanjay Mishra said, “I am extremely happy with the way the team fought and came within striking distance of a medal. Some of these youngsters were playing in such a competition for the first time but hardly showed any nerves. I am sure they will come up with a strong showing in the individual events starting two days later.”

The loss in the quarterfinals notwithstanding, the squad had a lot of positives to take from the competition as Tanvi Sharma remained unbeaten in all her matches and the changes in the mixed doubles combination worked well.

In fact, India did not lose any girls' singles match as Navya Kanderi also punched above her weight to win the only rubber against Indonesia in the group stage.
