New Delhi, July 1: Coming down heavily on the Trinamool Congress-led government in West Bengal over a "horrific" video of a man assaulting a woman in Chopra in West Bengal's Uttar Dinajpur, Bharatiya Janata Party President JP Nadda said Monday that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee' state is "unsafe for women."

"A horrific video has come to light from West Bengal, reminding of the brutalities that exist only in theocracies. To make matters worse, the TMC cadre and MLAs are justifying the act. Be it Sandeshkhali, Uttar Dinajpur or many other places, Didi's West Bengal is UNSAFE for women," Nadda posted on X.

"Police have arrested one person who had publicly assaulted a woman. Suo motu case filed. Victim has been provided police security. Investigation proceeds," a tweet from Islampur police district read.

According to the police, the arrested accused, identified as Tajmul Haque alias JCB, will be produced before the ACJM court in Islampur today.

Islampur Police District further said on X that "Efforts are being made from certain quarters to spread misinformation about an incident in Chopra PS under Islampur PD. The fact is, police has promptly identified and arrested one person who had publicly assaulted a lady."

"Suo moto case started by the police. Victim has been provided police security. Investigation proceeds," the tweet read.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar slammed the "appeasement politics" of the INDIA bloc.

"Just because INDI alliance politics is built on appeasement, that mean no laws or constitutional rights to life & liberty do not apply? Appeasement politics of INDI alliance are causing them to cross every line and every law that guarantees rights to citizens All over the country, including West Bengal. Lie about protecting the constitution but do exactly the opposite?," the BJP leader posted on X.

Earlier June 29, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged incident of assault on a Minority Morcha leader of the BJP in Cooch Behar.

Union Minister Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar on June 28 formed a seven-member team to investigate the alleged assault on the BJP Minority Morcha leader in Cooch Behar.

The seven-member team includes BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul, MLA Sikha Chatterjee, Phalguni Patra, Shashi Agnihotri, MLA Malati Rava Roy, Mafuja Khatun and MP Jayanta Roy.

The West Bengal Police said that that a case has been registered regarding the alleged incident, and three suspects have been arrested.

New Delhi, July 3: Hardik Pandya's impressive show in India’s triumphant 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup campaign has seen him become the top-ranked all-rounder in the latest ICC Men's T20I Rankings update Wednesday.

Pandya has risen two places to go level with Sri Lanka’s leg-spin all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga as the top-ranked men's T20I all-rounder, the first time a player from India has achieved this landmark.

He made impactful cameos lower down the order with 144 runs at a strike-rate of over 150, including an unbeaten 27-ball fifty against Bangladesh at Antigua. He also took 11 wickets with the ball, and made a big contribution in the final by taking out Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, as well as defending 16 runs in a tense final over to help India win the T20 World Cup title for the second time.

Fast-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who won the Player of the Tournament award at the T20 World Cup for his scintillating 15 wickets, moved up by 12 spots to be at 12th place, his highest position since the end of 2020.

Left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav entered the top ten of the bowling rankings, moving up by three spots to joint-eighth. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has moved up by four spots to a career-best No.13 after topping the wickets chart at the T20 World Cup with 17 scalps.

Spinner Tabraiz Shamsi moved up by five positions to reach the top 15 in bowlers’ rankings. Anrich Nortje rose up by seven places to a career-best second spot to go just behind top-ranked Adil Rashid with 675 rating points.

Other movements in the top 10 of the men’s T20I all-rounder rankings include Marcus Stoinis, Sikandar Raza, Shakib Al Hasan and Liam Livingstone rising up by one spot, while Mohammad Nabi moved back by four spots to go out of the top five.

CM Kejriwal's Judicial Custody Extended Till July 12

New Delhi, July 3: A Delhi court Wednesday extended till July 12 the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the money laundering case linked to the alleged liquor policy scam.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja of the Rouse Avenue Court passed the order upon the expiry of the previously granted judicial custody.

Earlier in the day, the AAP supremo’s bail plea in a corruption case was mentioned before the Delhi High Court for urgent listing. A bench presided over by Acting Chief Justice (ACJ) Manmohan assured that CM Kejriwal's bail petition will be heard Friday (July 5).

The Delhi High Court Tuesday issued notice on a plea filed by CM Kejriwal challenging his arrest by the CBI. A bench of Justice Neena Bansal Krishna asked the central agency to file its response by July 17 in the matter.

Recently, CM Kejriwal was sent to 14-day judicial custody (till July 12) in a corruption case linked to the same liquor policy scam.

On June 26, the CBI formally arrested the AAP supremo when he was produced before Rouse Avenue Court.

A day before, the Delhi High Court stayed a trial court order granting bail to Kejriwal in the money laundering case saying that the documents and arguments were not appreciated by the lower court.

The Supreme Court, in May, had reserved its verdict on the petition filed by CM Kejriwal challenging his arrest and subsequent remand by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the excise policy case. However, he was ordered to be released on 21-day interim bail by the apex court in view of the general elections.
