Jaleswar (Balasore), Nov 28: West Bengal government has stopped the export of potatoes to Odisha, which may affect the price of the stock in local markets.
As per the report, hundreds of potato-laden trucks have been stopped by the West Bengal police near the West Bengal-Odisha border. The trucks reportedly won't move until West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gives clearance to the suppliers.
The trucks are stranded on the NH 60 near Beldah at the West Bengal-Odisha border.
As per reports, Mamata Banerjee has said that the export of potatoes won't be resumed until the price of potatoes decreases in West Bengal. Her notification had come on November 22 following the rise in potato price in West Bengal.
However, this is not the first time West Bengal government has stopped the potato-laden trucks near the border. The last time Mamata Banerjee did so just after the general elections and it affected the Odisha market heavily.
This time too, it's likely to have an impact on Odisha market. But if situation continues as it is now, the price of potatoes may rise rapidly and create concern among the people.
