Cuttack, Nov 26: The Tigiria Police have arrested five persons, who belong to a criminal gang, in connection with various crimes they have committed.
Tigiria Police arrested the leader of the gang and his four associates, who were involved in various unethical activities as well as terrorising locals and collecting extortion money.
The information was shared by Prateek Geeta Singh, SP, Cuttack (Rural), in a press conference, Tuesday.
The police have recovered four guns, six rounds of ammunition, two swords and four mobile phones as well as other offensive weapons from the gang members.
Six or seven people, at the Bhogada Kalapat Market Complex under Tigiria police station limits, were reportedly planning something big. After getting the tip from a source, a special task force conducted a raid at the said place.
As per the report, the accused tried to flee from the scene before the police arrested two of them -- identified as Banti Nayak and Chinu Malla.
Later in another raid, the police managed to arrest the gang leader Arun Nayak and one of his associates -- Akash Rout of Baunsaputa village.
The gang leader Arun admitted his crimes before the police that he was supplying weapons to his associates for various illegal activities, said Prateek Geeta Singh.
Singh also said that the accused have multiple cases registered against them, including threatening and demanding extortion money from contractors.
