Kabisuryanagar, May 22: At least six people, including two children, were killed and four others sustained critical injuries after a bus rammed into an auto-rickshaw near Ladkapalli Chhak under Purushottampur police station limits in Ganjam on Friday, a source said.
The deceased were identified as Mali Behera, Nrusingha Behera, Leelabati Behera, Neha Behera and Kiran Behera, and a toddler.
According to the source, around 10 people from Erendra village under K Nuagaon police station limits in Chikiti block were travelling in the auto-rickshaw to the Singhasini Temple under Polsara police station limits when the accident occurred.
Police said the bus hit the auto-rickshaw from behind and dragged the vehicle for some distance, leaving all passengers seriously injured.
With the help of locals and Fire Services personnel, the injured were rescued and shifted to the Community Health Centre in Kodala. Doctors later declared six persons dead during treatment, while four critically injured passengers are undergoing treatment.
Police have seized both the bus and the auto-rickshaw. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, and the bus driver has been detained for questioning. Further investigation is underway.

Jajpur Mishap
In another road accident in Odisha's Jajpur district, as many as 10 passengers were injured after a 'Force Traveller' vehicle crashed into a stationary truck near Kuakhia overbridge on National Highway-16.
According to the source, over 20 passengers from Raghunathpalli area in Ganjam district were travelling to the shrine of Maa Ghatagaon Tarini Temple when the vehicle rammed into the truck parked on the highway.
The injured were admitted to Dharmasala Community Health Center for treatment. Police from Kuakhia launched an investigation into the incident.
