Anugola, Jul 20: The growing obsession with social media reels has once again claimed a young life, this time in Anugola district of Odisha.

A tragic incident occurred near the Samal Jagannath Temple railway bridge, where a minor boy fell into the Brahmani River while attempting to shoot reels with his friends.

The victim has been identified as Shubhranshu Pradhan, a resident of Bilinda village under Samal police station.

According to reports, Shubhranshu, along with four friends, had gone to the Bimalagarh railway track over the river to record videos. While walking on the track, he suddenly slipped and fell directly into the river.

His friends tried to search for him for some time but failed to trace him. Frightened, they rushed back to inform his family members, who later alerted the police and fire services.

Samal police and the Kanihan fire brigade immediately reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. However, as the incident occurred late in the evening, the search was temporarily halted. Efforts resumed Monday morning, but as of now, the boy remains missing.

The incident has sparked concern among locals, who blame the growing addiction to reels for such tragedies.

Authorities continue their search operation, while the incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by reckless attempts to create viral content.
