Cuttack, Dec 6: The excitement is building in Odisha as the countdown has already begun for the much-awaited T20I clash between India and South Africa at the iconic Barabati Stadium here. The match will be played December 9.

 

Cricket fans across the state are gearing up for a thrilling contest as players from both sides start arriving in Bhubaneswar.

 

Several Indian stars including skipper Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma, and Varun Chakravarthy are expected to reach Bhubaneswar Saturday. Their arrival will further intensify the buzz among fans who are eagerly waiting to see their heroes in action.

On the South African side, five players — David Miller, Reeza Hendricks, Tristan Stubbs, Donavon Ferreira, and George Linde — have already landed in Bhubaneswar. The remaining squad members are scheduled to join after completing their ongoing domestic/international commitments.

Preparations at Barabati Stadium are in full swing. Fire Safety Director General Dr. Sudhanshu Sarangi, along with senior officials from the fire department, inspected the stadium to ensure robust fire safety arrangements.

 

The Commissionerate Police, led by Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh, has also assured that comprehensive security measures are in place. A three-tier security system has been deployed to guarantee the safety of players, officials, and spectators.

 

Despite minor disruptions due to airline scheduling issues, officials confirmed that all players will arrive as per the revised schedule. Meanwhile, ticket sales have witnessed massive crowds, with fans queuing up offline to secure seats.

 

Although many supporters expressed disappointment at not getting tickets, authorities urged them to enjoy the match live on television. Importantly, no reports of ticket black marketing have surfaced so far, though police remain vigilant.

 

With safety, security, and fan enthusiasm at their peak, the Barabati Stadium is set to host yet another electrifying clash that promises not just a sporting contest but a festival of cricket for Odisha.
