Bargarh, Oct 5: In a sudden crackdown, police conducted surprise raids in three correctional facilities across Bargarh district this morning.

Under the supervision of Bargarh Superintendent of Police (SP), co-ordinated raids were carried out at the District Jail, Padmapur Sub-Jail, and Sohela Sub-Jail. The operations were led by respective SDPOs and Additional SPs, with the support of four platoons of police force.

During the raids, authorities seized prohibited items including bidis (local cigarettes), ganja, and matchsticks, raising serious concerns about illegal activities inside the jails.

The SP stated that such surprise inspections will continue to ensure discipline and curb unlawful practices within the prison premises. The operation is part of a broader initiative to tighten security and uphold the integrity of correctional institutions in the district.

Officials have assured that further investigations will be conducted to identify how these items entered the jails and to hold responsible parties accountable.
