Berhampur, Oct 21: The murder of prominent Advocate and BJP leader Pitabash Panda in Berhampur has sent shockwaves across the legal and civil society.

The investigation into the case has gained momentum, with police officials confirming that several suspects have already been apprehended.

According to Southern Range IG Niti Shekhar, the probe is now focused on the final links that could reveal the motive, conspirators, and the individuals directly involved in the killing.

The Berhampur SP is expected to brief the media within the next two days, shedding light on the developments and the direction of the investigation.

Case at a Glance

Panda was shot dead on October 6 by assailants near his residence. Panda was returning home from his chamber when the assailants on a motorcycle shot him at point-blank range. He was rushed to the hospital by locals but succumbed to his bullet injuries.

The X-ray and autopsy reports confirm that a 9mm bullet entered his upper chest and travelled directly into the spinal column, where it became lodged. According to medical sources and the post-mortem examination, the bullet caused massive internal bleeding and traumatic brain injury, ultimately leading to Panda’s death.

Police, carrying out an intensive search, managed to apprehend two sharpshooters from Bihar who were allegedly hired to carry out the killing.

So far, eight to 10 individuals have been taken into custody, including a well-known political figure from Berhampur city, a corporator from a specific political party and a former student leader. The police are conducting intensive interrogations to uncover the motive and identify all those involved.
