Paralakhemundi, Jan 28: A Special POCSO Court here has sentenced a man to five years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for kidnapping and attempting sexual assault on a six-year-old girl during Ganesh Puja immersion festivities in September 2024.


The convict has been identified as B. Chandrasekhar. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 11,000.


In addition, the victim will receive Rs 50,000 compensation as directed by the court.


According to case records, the minor was abducted while accompanying her father to the immersion ceremony.


Chandrasekhar allegedly attempted sexual assault inside a vehicle before being apprehended.

Paralakhemundi police registered the case, conducted investigations, and filed charges against him.
