New Delhi, Aug 25: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday called upon the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to take a leading role in shaping a Samriddh and Viksit Bharat by 2047, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for transformative national progress.


Minister Pradhan today chaired the 56th Meeting of the Council of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) at IIT Delhi and stressed the PM’s directive that the country is not aiming for incremental change but for quantum jump and encouraged the IITs to take lead in this direction. He specifically urged the IITs to promote Indian languages by introducing regional languages in addition to English as the medium of instruction of courses for inclusive growth.


Pradhan reiterated the Prime Minister’s recent message: “No incremental changes…it’s the time for quantum jumps.” He emphasized that IITs must evolve beyond traditional academic roles to become engines of innovation, entrepreneurship, and regional development.

“All our IITs have resolved to work individually and collectively for realizing national goals,” Pradhan stated, highlighting their commitment to breakthrough research, deep-tech entrepreneurship, and translational innovation. He urged the institutions to become the knowledge backbone of their local economies, contributing to employment generation and economic growth.

The Minister stressed that IITs must focus on producing job creators and nation-builders, not just engineering graduates. By solving real-world problems and fostering industry-academia collaboration, IITs can help India achieve a quantum leap in global competitiveness and technological leadership.
