Bhubaneswar, July 14: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday attended the fifth convocation ceremony of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar and urged the graduating doctors to practice compassionate healthcare and drive medical innovation.


AIIMS Bhubaneswar today conferred degrees upon students across MBBS, MD/MS, DM/MCh, Nursing, and Paramedical disciplines. President Droupadi Murmu gave away 59 gold medals to 31 students and conferred degrees to 643 healthcare professionals on the occasion.


Speaking at the event, the Minister congratulated all the graduating students and their parents and wished them a bright and fulfilling career. He also expressed his gratitude to President Murmu for inspiring the young professionals as they embark on their careers.


Pradhan described AIIMS Bhubaneswar as a “Vat-Vriksh” — a banyan tree of knowledge and research — that has flourished since its inception under former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The Minister emphasized the importance of healthcare in national development, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that good health is the foundation of prosperity.


Pradhan called upon the new graduates to serve society with compassion and responsibility, especially in Odisha, and contribute to the goals of “Viksit Odisha by 2036” and “Viksit Bharat by 2047.”


Highlighting Bhubaneswar’s academic diversity, Pradhan said the city has the potential to become a global medi-tech hub. He encouraged collaboration and innovation in medical technology to address both local and global health challenges.


The convocation ceremony was graced by President Murmu, Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling and other dignitaries.
