Argus News - MP Veterinary Team Performs Life-Saving Surgery On Cobra

Bhopal, Nov 28: A rare two-hour operation by a four-member veterinary team saved the life of a critically injured cobra.

On Tuesday night, a cobra got accidentally struck by a JCB machine during construction work at Vikram Nagar Industrial Park.

The reptile sustained severe head injuries and much of its skin peeled off. As it tried to move a short distance, frightened locals threw mud at it out of fear.

Fortunately, two individuals, Rahul and Mukul, rescued the snake and admitted it to a veterinary hospital on Udayan Marg.

Led by Chief Veterinary Surgeon Dr. Mukesh Jain, along with field officers Ramkanya Gaurav, Ravi Rathore, and Prashant Parihar, the medical team administered mild anaesthesia to the cobra, cleaned its wounds, and procured essential medicines before beginning the operation.

The intricate surgery lasted two hours, during which the reptile received 80 stitches to bind its skin and muscles together.

The snake is stable now and will soon be handed over to the rescuers for observation. After two days of monitoring, it will be released into the wild, said a senior official.

This case has been considered rare, as reptiles like snakes are often injured intentionally or killed so that it doesn't threaten the lives around it. A predator must be sent back to its natural habitat instead of killing it in a place it musn't be.
