Kishtwar, Jan 29: A massive avalanche struck the remote Warwan valley in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Wednesday, sparking panic among local residents.

The sudden snow slide swept through the mountainous terrain, cutting off access routes and raising concerns about safety in the region.

Authorities confirmed that rescue teams were immediately mobilised to assess the situation and provide assistance. While no casualties have been officially reported so far, officials said the scale of the avalanche has disrupted normal life and posed risks to villages in the valley.

The Warwan valley, known for its rugged landscape and heavy snowfall during winter, has often faced natural disasters such as avalanches and landslides.

Local residents expressed fear as the snow engulfed parts of the valley, forcing many to remain indoors.
