Patna, Oct 5: At least ten people lost their lives while several sustained injuries in separate incidents of lightning strikes across Bihar as the state reels under the impact of relentless monsoon rains.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a red alert for ten districts in North Bihar, warning of continued heavy downpours and potential flooding.

The affected districts include Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, and Supaul, among others.

According to reports, Patna experienced intermittent showers throughout the day, leading to severe waterlogging in residential and commercial areas.

State disaster response teams have been deployed to assist with rescue and relief operations.

Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and avoid open fields during storm activity. Medical teams are attending to the injured, and temporary shelters have been set up for those displaced by flooding.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and announced an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 4 lakh for each victim’s family.

As rains continue to lash the region, officials remain on high alert to prevent further casualties and mitigate damage.
