New Delhi, Jan 1: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released its official holiday calendar for January 2026, confirming that banks across the country will remain closed on several dates due to national observances, regional festivals, and statutory holidays.

 

According to the RBI list, up to 16 holidays will be observed in January, varying by state. While digital banking services will remain operational, physical branches will be closed on these dates.

 

Key closures include:

 

- January 1 (New Year’s Day): Banks closed in Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, West Bengal, and Meghalaya.

- January 2: Banks closed in Kerala (Mannam Jayanthi) and Mizoram (New Year celebrations).

- January 3: Banks will remain closed in Uttar Pradesh for birthday of Hazrat Ali.

- January 12: 2026 Banks in West Bengal will remain closed in observance of birth day of Swami Vivekananda.

- January 14–15: Pongal/Makar Sankranti holidays in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and other states.

- January 16: Banks in Tamil Nadu will be shut in observance of Thiruvalluvar Day.

- January 17: Banks in Tamil Nadu will remain closed due to Uzhavar Thirunal.

- January 23: Banks in Tripura, Odisha, West Bengal, will remain shut in observance of the birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Saraswati Puja (Shree Panchami), Vir Surendrasai Jayanti and Basanta Panchami.

- January 26: Republic Day, a nationwide holiday.

 

- All Sundays and 2nd & 4th Saturdays: Regular closures across India.

 

Authorities have urged customers to check the statewise holiday list before planning branch visits, loan processing, cheque clearances, or other inperson transactions.
