Bhubaneswar, Feb 25: The atmosphere across Odisha remains cool, with no immediate signs of Kalbaisakhi (Nor’westers) activity.

Over the past two days, a trough line over central India briefly triggered Kalbaisakhi-like conditions, but currently, no major weather system is influencing the state.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for the next 24 hours across 22 districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, and Dhenkanal.

Day temperatures are expected to rise by 2-3°C over the next two to three days. Paralakhemundi recorded the highest temperature at 36.6°C, while Rourkela registered the lowest at 14.6°C.

Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar witnessed a tragic incident on Tuesday when strong winds and rain caused a large hoarding to collapse, killing two people. The accident has prompted the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to take notice of the growing risks posed by unsafe and illegal hoardings across the city.

According to our source, in Cuttack city, several hoardings are precariously placed in crowded areas, some on dilapidated buildings and others in half-broken conditions. “In addition, numerous unauthorized hoardings have been installed across the city, raising serious safety concerns,” said the source.

Public outrage has grown over why the CMC has remained silent despite the presence of hundreds of dangerous hoardings. In response, the Mayor has announced that within two days, a meeting will be held with the Municipal Commissioner to form a committee. This committee will identify all unsafe hoardings and initiate strict action to remove them.
