Weather Forecast / Orange Warning Issued for Four Districts in Odisha as Low-Pressure Forms

Bhubaneswar, Aug 8: A low-pressure area has formed over south-west Bengal and adjoining north Odisha under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation, triggering a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of Odisha, the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar forecast on Saturday.

According to the weather department, the low-pressure area formed at 8:30am on August 8. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestwards with height.

The system is expected to influence rainfall activity across Odisha over the next 24 hours, with heavy to very heavy rain forecast in several areas. Rainfall activity is also likely to continue in parts of the state until August 14, with coastal Odisha expected to see a significant impact.Rain Forecast For August 9

For the next 24 hours, the weather department has issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Baragada, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Sundaragada districts.

A yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for 19 districts -- Malkangiri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagada, Kataka, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Baleshwar, Dhenkanal, Anugola, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Boudh, Subarnapur, Balangir and Nuapada, according to the information provided.

A yellow warning has also been issued for the remaining districts over the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph.

Forecast Till August 10
Heavy rainfall is very likely at one or two places over Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada and Sambalpur districts.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds of 30-40 kmph are also very likely at one or two places over Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada districts.
