Bhubaneswar, Apr 13: Odisha continues to battle extreme summer conditions as the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a heatwave warning across several districts.

The unbearable heat, described by locals as “fire raining from the sky,” has gripped both coastal and western Odisha, leaving residents struggling to cope.

According to the Met Centre, the heatwave conditions are expected to persist until April 19, with temperatures likely to rise by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius.

The intensity of heat is expected to increase further after Pana Sankranti, marking one of the harshest spells of summer in recent years.

A yellow warning has been issued for 11 coastal districts including Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore. These regions are likely to experience oppressive heat combined with humid conditions.

Similarly, western districts such as Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur have also been placed under yellow alert due to severe hot and humid weather.

Temperature readings over the past 24 hours highlight the severity of the situation. Titlagarh recorded the highest at 41.5°C, followed by Bhawanipatna and Balangir at 41°C.

Jharsuguda registered 40.7°C, Hirakud 40°C, and Sambalpur 40.1°C. Even the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack experienced sweltering conditions at 37.7°C and 37.4°C respectively.

The Meteorological Department has urged residents to remain cautious, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and stay hydrated.

With the heatwave showing no signs of abating, Odisha braces for more days of scorching temperatures.
