Bhubaneswar, Jul 21: Odisha is bracing for another spell of intense rainfall over the next 48 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange warning for five districts and yellow warnings for several others.
According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, the rainfall is being triggered by the influence of two trough lines. While no clear low-pressure system has been identified yet, officials confirmed that widespread showers are expected to continue across the state for at least six more days, coinciding with the Bahuda Yatra festivities.
The IMD has placed Nuapada, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh under orange warning for extremely heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, districts including Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore have been issued yellow warnings for heavy rain.

In addition, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, and Bhadrak are expected to witness thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds ranging between 30-40 kmph.

✨Similar conditions are forecast for tomorrow in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh, along with thunderstorm activity in Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Balasore.
The IMD has also cautioned that lightning strikes may occur during these thunderstorms, urging residents to remain indoors and avoid open areas during severe weather.
Rainfall activity has already been significant across Odisha. On Monday, heavy showers were recorded in 10 districts, with Kakata Pur in Puri district receiving the highest rainfall at 108 mm. Heavy showers and thunderstorms lashed Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on Tuesday afternoon.
Since June 1, the state has recorded 488.9 mm of rainfall, which is 13 per cent above the seasonal average.
With the Bahuda Yatra approaching, authorities are expected
to monitor weather conditions closely to ensure the safety of devotees.
