Flood Fury / Odisha Flood Rescue: Elderly Farmer Rescued after 24-Hour Ordeal in Bhadrak

Bhadrak, Jul 30: The district administration has intensified rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas under the direct instructions of the Collector.

Teams from ODRAF, Fire Services, and local authorities are working round-the-clock to ensure safety and emergency assistance for stranded residents.

In one remarkable rescue, ODRAF’s 4th IRB team from Deogarh successfully evacuated 76-year-old Trilochan Sahoo from Nadigaon, which was surrounded by floodwaters. His health condition is reported to be stable after the rescue.

Similarly, a snakebite victim from Tiaradisahi was promptly rescued and admitted to the Tihidi Community Health Centre (CHC), where timely medical treatment is being provided.

The administration has stepped up efforts in evacuation, healthcare, and relief distribution across affected regions. Coordinated action between ODRAF, Fire Services, and local officials is ensuring that vulnerable residents receive immediate support.

A heart-stirring incident from Dhamnagar has captured public attention. Elderly farmer Trilochan Sahoo survived nearly 24 hours clinging to a palm tree after being trapped by floodwaters.

Battling hunger, cold, and fear, he even shared the tree with a black snake during the night. His ordeal ended when his son alerted Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, who quickly mobilized ODRAF forces. Despite strong currents, rescue personnel reached the tree and safely brought Sahu back to land.

The dramatic rescue has become a symbol of courage and timely intervention. Witnesses described the moment as one of relief and joy, with Sahoo’s smile returning and his family shedding tears of happiness.

This episode highlights the importance of swift administrative response and community cooperation in saving lives during disasters.
