Bhubaneswar, Dec 30: Severe cold conditions, coupled with dense fog, continue to disrupt normal life across Odisha, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that foggy conditions are likely to persist for the next three days.
According to the weather office, coastal Odisha will remain under dense fog cover for the next 48 hours. While no major synoptic weather system is currently active over the state, dry weather is expected to prevail for the next seven days.
The IMD has forecast a gradual rise of 2–3 degrees Celsius in day temperatures after two to three days, which may bring slight relief from the prevailing cold. Night temperatures are also likely to increase by 2–3 degrees Celsius within four to five days, indicating a brief break in the cold wave conditions. However, dense fog and dew formation are expected at many places over the next two days, officials said.
Yellow Warning for Dense Fog
The weather department has issued a yellow warning for dense fog over 13 districts during the next 24 hours: Kandhamal, Khordha, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Puri and Sundargarh.
For January 1 (New Year’s Day), dense fog warnings have been issued for 10 districts — Kandhamal, Khordha, Cuttack, Puri, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore and Sundargarh. The IMD said dense fog conditions may continue till January 3.
