Weather Alert / Monsoon Showers Bring Relief across Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jun 22: Odisha witnessed a dramatic change in weather conditions as widespread monsoon showers drenched both coastal and interior regions on Monday.
Overcast skies and steady rainfall brought much-needed relief from the scorching heat and oppressive humidity, especially in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, where continuous showers since morning cooled temperatures significantly.
The seasonal rains have not only eased discomfort for
residents but also sparked optimism among farmers. With paddy cultivation
preparations underway, the rainfall is expected to aid in soil moisture and
field readiness, offering a ray of hope for the agricultural community.

Meteorologists have predicted that rainfall intensity will increase in interior Odisha from June 28, further supporting crop prospects.
However, the showers also caused minor disruptions. Low-lying areas in several urban pockets reported waterlogging, affecting traffic movement.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that the southwest monsoon has advanced further, covering parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar.

✨Over the next 48 hours, monsoon winds are expected to progress deeper into these regions, including Mumbai and remaining parts of Odisha.
Heavy rainfall warnings were issued for Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts, with thunderstorms and wind speeds of 50-60 km/h likely.
Moderate to heavy showers are also forecast across Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagarh.
On Sunday, rainfall records showed Sonepur receiving 49.2 mm, Nayagarh 5 mm, Malkangiri 3.2 mm, Sambalpur 2.4 mm, and Bargarh 2.2 mm.
Temperature levels across most districts remained below 40°C, with Sambalpur at 39.8°C, Hirakud at 39.3°C, Sundargarh at 38.5°C, Bolangir at 38.2°C, Dhenkanal at 37.6°C, and Nuapada at 37°C. Daringbadi recorded the lowest daytime temperature at 28.5°C.
With the monsoon advancing steadily, Odisha is set to
experience more widespread rainfall in the coming days, bringing much-needed relief
from summer heat while boosting agricultural prospects across the state.
