Bhubaneswar, Jan 19: Odisha is witnessing a noticeable decline in the intensity of winter as temperatures begin to climb across several districts.
According to recent records, many areas have reported a rise in mercury levels, signalling the gradual retreat of the cold season.
For the first time this year, following the commencement of
the Sun’s northward movement (Uttarayan), Bhubaneswar touched the 30°C mark on
Sunday. This marks a significant shift in the weather pattern, as the capital
city usually experiences cooler nights during this period.

Officials noted that this is the first recorded increase in night-time temperatures since the Sun began its northward journey. The western winds are also expected to influence the northwestern parts of Odisha, contributing to the warming trend.
In the last 24 hours, Bhubaneswar registered a maximum temperature of 30°C, Nabarangpur recorded 30.8°C, Titilagarh 30.5°C, and Bhawanipatna 30.5°C. These figures highlight the steady rise in mercury levels across different regions, indicating that the state is moving toward warmer days.
Experts believe this shift is likely to bring relief from the biting cold that has gripped the state over the past few weeks. With the anticipated rise in temperature, residents can expect more comfortable conditions, though the sudden change may also require adjustments in daily routines.
The gradual warming is seen as a natural transition as
Odisha moves closer to spring. Farmers and traders in transport and
construction sectors are hopeful that the favourable weather will support their
activities.
