Bhubaneswar, Apr 4: Jharsuguda has emerged as the hottest city in Odisha, recording a maximum temperature of 41.6°C in the last 24 hours, leaving residents grappling with intense summer heat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts predicting Kalbaisakhi rains across the state until April 8, offering some respite from the scorching conditions.
According to IMD forecasts, northern coastal Odisha and parts of southern districts are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next four days.
Winds with speeds ranging between 40 to 50 kmph are also
expected in several regions. Districts including Balasore, Kendrapara, Bhadrak,
and Jagatsinghpur remain under a yellow alert for hot and humid weather, while
Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri may experience light showers.

✨Rainfall activity is predicted to intensify from April 5 onwards, spreading to interior districts such as Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal, with widespread impact expected between April 6 and 8.
The IMD has clarified that no significant rise in temperature is expected in the next three days, and daytime temperatures may even drop by 1-2°C after April 10.
Meanwhile, Jharsuguda administration has rolled out measures to ease the heat stress faced by residents. In a proactive step, 38 water kiosks (jalachhatras) are being set up across the city, with five already inaugurated by local MLA Tankadhar Tripathy. These kiosks aim to provide clean drinking water to pedestrians and the general public during peak summer hours.
To safeguard animals, the municipal authorities have also
arranged dedicated water troughs at key locations. Officials have urged
citizens to remain cautious during the hottest hours of the day, between 11 AM
and 3 PM, and advised carrying water bottles, wearing cotton clothes, and using
umbrellas or head coverings when outdoors.
