Bhubaneswar, July 13: A cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining southern Bangladesh has activated widespread rainfall alert across Odisha, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue multiple warnings for the next five days.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several districts, with isolated places likely to experience extremely heavy showers. Coastal areas have also been put on alert for stormy weather conditions over the next two days.
A yellow warning has been issued for 11 coastal districts including Ganjam, Gajapati, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Balasore, Nayagarh, and Jajpur, cautioning residents about thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds of 30-40 kmph.

In the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall is likely in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar, while Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Khordha, and Sundargarh may witness thunderstorms with gusty winds.

✨From Tuesday, rainfall activity is expected to intensify across Odisha. An orange warning has been issued for Kandhamal district, where extremely heavy rainfall is likely.
Yellow warnings remain in place for Rayagada, Kalahandi, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.
The IMD has also cautioned fishermen against venturing into the sea between July 13 and 17, as squally weather with wind speeds of 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, is expected along the Odisha coast.
Rainfall statistics show that Odisha has received 348.2 mm of rain since June 1, which is 4% above the normal average of 334.4 mm.
Three districts have recorded excess rainfall, seven
districts heavy rainfall, 11 districts normal rainfall, while nine districts
have reported deficient rainfall. In the past 24 hours, Jagatsinghpur recorded
the highest rainfall at 6 mm.
