Bhubaneswar, Nov 27: The weather system near Sri Lanka has intensified into a depression and is expected to strengthen further into a deep depression within the next six hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Officials warn that within the next 12-18 hours, the system could evolve into a cyclonic storm, posing a potential threat to coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and adjoining southern Andhra Pradesh.
The IMD stated that the system, currently active over the
southwest Bay of Bengal near southeast Sri Lanka and adjoining equatorial
Indian Ocean, is moving in a north-northwest direction. Forecast models suggest
that the cyclone may make landfall between Chennai and Puducherry on November
30.

The system is expected to intensify further as it travels across the southwest Bay of Bengal, raising concerns of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough sea conditions along the eastern coast.
