Bhubaneswar, Jun 20: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar forecast on Saturday an increase in Kalbaisakhi activity across Odisha over the next three days before the southwest monsoon covers the entire state.
Weather conditions are expected to remain active over the next three days till June 23, with alerts issued for all 30 districts.
Orange Alert for Nine Districts
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Bhadrak districts. An Orange Warning has also been issued for Balasore, Sundargarh, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts, where Kalbaisakhi activity is expected to have the maximum impact over the next three days.
The remaining districts have been placed under a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty surface winds.
Strong Winds and Rainfall Expected
Till June 23, the weather office has warned that parts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Balasore and Sundargarh may experience thunderstorms with wind speeds of 50-60 kmph. The other districts are likely to witness gusty winds of 40-50 kmph along with lightning and rainfall.
The IMD indicated that Kalbaisakhi-related rainfall activity is likely to continue across Odisha till June 23.
Monsoon to Cover Odisha in Three Days
While pre-monsoon showers are expected intermittently, the IMD has estimated that the southwest monsoon may take another three days to cover the remaining parts of Odisha.

Relief From Heat, But Humidity to Persist
The ongoing rainfall activity is likely to bring down day temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. However, coastal districts may continue to experience hot and humid conditions for another three days despite the rain.
Rainfall Deficit Remains a Concern
Despite recent showers, Odisha continues to face a rainfall deficit. The state has recorded nearly 48 per cent below-normal rainfall so far this season. Kendrapara remains among the districts reporting significant rainfall deficiency, while several other districts have received near-normal precipitation.
Weather conditions are expected to remain active over the next three days till June 23, with alerts issued for all 30 districts.
