New Delhi, Sep 17: Global semiconductor leaders, policymakers, investors, researchers, and innovators are converging in New Delhi this week as India hosts the fifth edition of SEMICON India 2026.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the flagship event on Thursday at Yashobhoomi, marking a significant milestone in India’s ambition to strengthen its role in the global semiconductor and electronics ecosystem.

Held under the theme “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem,” the conference comes at a pivotal stage in India’s semiconductor journey. With strong policy support, growing industry execution, and rising global demand for diversified supply chains, India is positioning itself as a key player in the sector.

The exhibition will feature more than 600 exhibitors, including 300 international companies, across 15,000 square metres of space. Six country pavilions and 12 state government pavilions will highlight global and domestic participation. Dedicated platforms will showcase start-ups, innovation, students, workforce development, and women in semiconductors.

The Startup Pavilion will host around 40 start-ups, while the Workforce Development Pavilion will spotlight talent, skills, and career opportunities in microelectronics.

A major attraction will be the ‘Sand to Silicon to Systems’ Value Chain Experience, offering visitors an integrated view of the semiconductor ecosystem from materials and manufacturing to chip design, packaging, electronics, and systems.

The programme includes keynotes, panel discussions, and strategic sessions on semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence, supply-chain resilience, advanced packaging, materials, equipment, chip design, R&D, start-ups, and talent development.

Additional highlights include a startup pitch competition, student hackathon, and innovation showcase.

Ahead of the inauguration, PM Modi held a roundtable with leading CEOs on Wednesday, urging them to participate in the next phase of India’s semiconductor growth. “Close collaboration between the government and the semiconductor industry is vital in shaping India’s technology future,” a PMO statement quoted him as saying.

He emphasised India’s strong foundation of talent, technology adoption, and infrastructure, and called for greater industry participation in skilling, innovation, and emerging technologies such as AI and Quantum Computing.

Referring to the target of training one crore people in AI, he said, “India’s talent pool, combined with the experience and capabilities of global industry leaders, can create significant opportunities.”

The roundtable was attended by CEOs and representatives from SEMI, Micron, Infineon, Applied Materials, ASML, Merck, Tokyo Electron Ltd, Fujifilm, AMD, Intel, Tata Electronics, Lam Research, Rapidus, NXP, Foxconn, Semi Conductor Devices, Advantest, Celesta Capital, CG Power, and IBM Research, among others.
