Former cricketer Dinesh Karthik, on the other hand, revealed that Kohli intends to play the 2027 World Cup. “He is keen to play the 2027 World Cup. In London, he was training during this big lay-off that he had after a long time in his life. He was practising cricket, 2-3 sessions a week. He is serious about his World Cup 2027 participation," DK, as Karthik is popularly known, said in a video which is posted on Instagram.
Virat Kohli is the second highest run getter in the ODIs after the great Sachin Tendulkar. The former India skipper has 14,181 runs in the 50-over format to his name. His 51 centuries in the format is the most by any batter in the world.
The last time Kohli donned the Indian jersey was in March — ICC Champions Trophy. His performance in the tournament was superb, amassing 218 runs in five matches, which include a century against arch-rivals Pakistan and a brilliant 84 against Australia in the semifinals.
He has not played an official match since IPL 2025, where his team — Royal Challengers Bengaluru — had clinched their maiden title defeating Punjab Kings in the final.
