The Next Dravid? Former India Captain's Son Anvay Gets Maiden India U-19 Call-Up
17-Year-Old Anvay Dravid Earns Maiden India Call Up As Wicketkeeper Batter For Under-19 ODIs

Key Points

Anvay Dravid, the 17-year-old younger son of former India captain Rahul Dravid, has been named in India's Under-19 squad for the One-Day series against Sri Lanka starting July 4 in Hambantota.
New Delhi, Jun 11: Indian cricket could soon witness another member of the Dravid family donning national colours. Anvay Dravid, the younger son of former India captain Rahul Dravid, has been named in the India Under-19 squad for the upcoming One-Day series against Sri Lanka next month.

The Junior Cricket Selection Committee, headed by Sharath Sridharan, announced India's squads for both the white-ball and red-ball legs of the tour on Thursday. The bilateral series, comprising three One-Day matches and two multi-day fixtures, will begin on July 4 in Hambantota.

Maiden National Call-Up For 17-Year-Old
The 17-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has earned his first India call-up following a string of impressive performances in age-group cricket.

A right-handed batter, Anvay has been included in the 15-member One-Day squad and will serve as one of the team's two wicketkeepers alongside Rajat Baghel.

Madhya Pradesh batter Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan has been appointed captain of the side, while Lakshya Raichandani will serve as vice-captain.

The selection marks a major milestone in Anvay's young cricketing journey and places him on the national pathway for future age-group assignments.

First Among The Dravid Brothers To Represent India
While his elder brother Samit Dravid has represented Karnataka in Under-19 cricket, Anvay has become the first of Rahul Dravid's sons to earn selection to an Indian national team.

The call-up is likely to draw attention given Rahul Dravid's stature in Indian cricket, both as a legendary batter and as a former India head coach.

Strong Domestic Performances Back Selection

Anvay recently impressed selectors during the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, where he captained Karnataka's Under-19 side to the quarter-finals.

Batting mainly in the middle order, he scored 220 runs in six innings and showcased his ability to perform under pressure.

His standout knock came against Himachal Pradesh when he struck an unbeaten 82 to guide Karnataka through a challenging run chase.

Before that, he had also registered his maiden century in the Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy, further strengthening his credentials as a promising young batter.

Eye On The Next Under-19 World Cup Cycle

National selectors are treating the Sri Lanka tour as the beginning of India's next Under-19 World Cup development cycle.

Given his age, Anvay remains eligible for the next Under-19 World Cup in two years' time, making the upcoming exposure in Sri Lankan conditions an important step in his development.

The Indian squad is expected to leave for Sri Lanka later this month, with the red-ball matches scheduled after the completion of the One-Day series.
